Headcanons about fleetway Mobius and Amy ahoy!

Mobian Holidays

January 1st: Hogmanay
The beginning of the New Year, Mobians mark the occasion in style with public fireworks, sparklers and food. Street parties are extremely common as it's a custom to celebrate with your neighbours and family - inviting someone new to your house is meant to bring good luck, especially if you give them a kiss (on the cheek!) as they enter. It's origins date back to an ancient festival celebrating survival through the harshest part of winter as well as the coming year.

April 3rd: VR Day
A recent holiday that marks the downfall and end of Robotnik's rule over Mobius, it's often celebrated with organised parades and parties. It's not necessarily a big event, depending on where one lives, but more an occasion of rememberance and glory. Some people swear off electricity for the day, to mimic the blackout that crippled Robotnik's forces. It's also a bank holiday, so nobody works on this day.

Date Varies: Easter

A celebration of new life and the return of spring, Mobians typically give each other chocolate eggs and rabbits on this holiday. It's popularity has died down in recent years due to being Robotnik's favourite holiday, souring it. That said some Mobians have opted for gifts of flowers instead of eggs to remove the connection, a move that's questioned and causes a bit of conflict among the citizens. Regardless it's still recognised as a worldwide holiday.

October 31st: All Hallow's Eve / Halloween
Another ancient holiday, it once marked the 'Feast of the Dead', a banquet arranged to applease spirits and ask for their protection / non-violence in the coming winter months. Nowadays it's a night of ghost stories, costumes and spooky sweets. Trick or treating isn't common on Mobius - in it's place it's traditional to stay up from sunset to sunrise in costume, attending a party or a get-together with friends. As such, it's also traditional to sleep in on November 1st!

November 5th: Bonfire Night
Remember remember, the fifth of November... Details of exactly what passed is hazy as the history was first passed down by word of mouth but what is remembered is that a figure known as 'Guy' attempted to betray Mobius during a Great War against an otherwordly threat. He was captured and punished for his crimes and to remind others the price of cowardice and betrayal, straw figures known as 'Guys' are thrown onto bonfires and fireworks light the sky, perhaps to mimic the lights that glowed as the enemy was driven off.

December 25th: Christmas
Weirdly enough, Christmas is indeed a holiday in Mobius. Father Christmas, a mythical being that cannot be seen by machines nor touched by living things, gives presents to the citizens of Mobius who have been good and kind. It's also said he has the ability to see into the future, predicting the downfall of those who are cruel and destructive. On Christmas Day, Mobians celebrate by gathering with their loved ones, eating seasonal treats and swapping presents.

Mobian History

Political
In libraries and museums there's an extensive history on the political climate of Mobius. In Ancient times, the first empire arose and attempted to conquer mutliple zones, though it's home zone is known to be (what is now called) the Aquatic Ruins Zone. This empire was the first known widespread civiliation in Mobius and is arguably still the most influencial, spreading a common language, mathematics, science and many myths. This included the tale of the legendary Floating Island.

The empire eventually broke apart, unable to maintain control over the world. Zones remained in contact and participated in trade, though individual customs developed from the unique lifestyle each offered. Some zones had leaders from the days of the empire. Others fell back into anarchy.

The second world rulers were a line of Kings and Queens, starting with Catherine the Indomitable. She rose to power while fighting off an alien threat, uniting the zones against a common, grand enemy. Her descendants ranged from good, fair leaders to greedy and corrupt tyrants. After a string of cruel monarchs, riots began to break out and the people turned on the royals. The Last King, King Adam II, found he couldn't keep power after the unrest of his father's and grandfather's rule. Rather than lose his family to the protesters he formally stepped down, denouncing the crown and disappearing. Records indicate he fled to the Hill Top Zone and some mobians there claim they can trace their hertiage to Adam and his children.

Following the fall of the monarchy, Mobius at large shunned leaders with vast control. Many communities had an official of sorts, a mayor or governer who oversaw a town or villiage. Stories involving princesses and princes remained popular, especially among children, a lasting stamp of the monarchy in Mobian culture.

This would be the status quo until Doctor Robotnik seized control of Mobius...

Amy's Family

Amy's family consists only of her father and mother. Her mother was a traveling fortune-teller before she was courted and fell in love with her father, a part-time handyman. The two were very open in their relationship and very affectionate, both to each other and to Amy. Despite working in construction / carpentry, her father was somewhat frail and preferred to settle disputes peacefully by communicating. Her mother was the more domineering force in the household, with a hot temper and a no-nonsense attitude. It's from her mother that Amy learned to read tarot cards and was given a deck as a gift. Her mother also predicted Amy's fate; that an iconic meeting would lead to great things. Her father also taught her much, mostly about morality and fairness.

During Robotnik's reign, it was common for Mrs. Rose to nearly insult or threaten the badniks and troopers in her zone, only for Mr. Rose to urge her not to get into/start trouble lest she be arrested. Following Robotnik's take-over, they attempted to keep their heads low to avoid drawing trouble; it didn't work as Amy was arrested to be a test subject for an experiment of Robotnik's. While she did return her father still feared Robotnik's armies, as standing up to them only resulted in violence and threats of hard labour or imprisonment (her mother wanted to start a fight with them but knew that it would result in no good). When Amy joined the Freedom Fighters, they were extremely worried about their only daughter but knew they couldn't stop her as she was already a wanted traitor. For the years Amy spent fighting against Robotnik's rule, she couldn't contact her parents often for fear that Robotnik would hurt them. She briefly talked with them when they were evacuated to Angel Island and would write to them when she could, although they couldn't write back due to her living circumstances. Following Robotnik's downfall the family was reunited, though Amy had grown a lot over those harsh years. She decided to keep living with her friends in their base while her parents opted to move from Emerald Hill to Never Lake. She visits them at least once a month and writes to them frequently, when she isn't absent on an adventure to other dimensions.

Amy's Secret Past

Being arrested for claiming to be Sonic's girlfriend wasn't the first run-in Amy had with the doctor, it was actually the second. Shortly after his conquest of Mobius, Amy was kidnapped by Troopers and taken to the Chemical Plant zone. Unbeknown to her, she was to be used in an experiment to try and replicate the accident Kintobor had with Sonic, turning him into the fastest hedgehog alive. After several weeks the experiment was deemed a failure and Amy, in a show of Robotnik's 'mercy', was tossed from the Plant with a batch of chemical waste. She managed to get back home with a kindled hatred for Robotnik and a determined streak that led her to try and rally the people against Robotnik. This failed as the locals considered it suicidal to stand up against him, even when she started saying she was Sonic the Hedgehog's girlfriend. Which led to her subsequent arrest, rescue and induction into the Freedom Fighters. The effects of the testing on her is unknown...

Life Undercover and on the Run

Joining the Freedom Fighters threw Amy into a life of espionage and hiding. Before she had merely lived in Robotnik's world; now she was fighting against it. Cutting ties with old friends and disconnecting from her parents, she could only rely on her fellow Freedom Fighters. Only a few months later their base would be destroyed, forcing the members to live in extremely close quarters within a caravan. It was during this time that Amy found herself having to grow up and prove herself to the team, to earn her place among them. Any coyness she may have had about living with four boys was squashed as there was simply no other options available and some of her more feminine behaviours lessened as a result of being around them so often.

As part of their cover as a traveling circus she used the pseudonym of 'Sonya Thorns', performing as the impalement act (that is, throwing knives and shooting rapid fire arrows at a living target). She rarely left the caravan without the disguise unless on a mission, essentially living as Sonya to avoid being recognised by Robotnik's forces or the general public. As time wore on, the pressures on the general public grew as did the bounty on the Freedom Fighters, meaning that they couldn't trust on the goodness of locals to not hand them in.

The hardest of times during Robotnik's reign was after Super Sonic destroyed their caravan. Covers blown, presumed dead and with nowhere to go, Amy, Johnny and Tails had to survive on the streets while trying to track down Sonic, who was convinced he had killed his friends. Using only cloaks to hide their features and sleeping in abandoned buildings or in alleys, it truly was the darkness before dawn. After finding Sonic they continued to sleep rough until Tekno offered her hidden lab in the now empty Emerald Hill as a base for their use. This would be where they were living when Robotnik was overthrown and remains their main base/home.

The efforts of living such a life, while long behind her, has left Amy with the skills to live rough, to effectively  disappear and to remain unseen by the public. It's also lead her to develop a deep sense of security when living with friends, to the point that she finds it hard to imagine living alone and even has trouble sleeping outside the base.

Miscellaneous Titibits

* Her favourite type of music is rock n roll. She can't stand pop, thanks to having to protect a certain vapid, vain popstar repeatedly.
